Purpose, Vision and Values
Mercuria is committed to its founding ambition of creating a diversified global energy group.
Starting as an oil trader, we have diversified into a wide range of commodities necessary for the energy transition. We continue to trade essential energy for all communities globally, aware that many communities need more traditional energy sources.
With our continued growth through expertise and capabilities, we remain at the forefront of the energy transition and are one of the world’s four largest independent energy traders. Our operations span the energy landscape, with proven success and a high reputation.

Our purpose
Our purpose is bringing together different energy stakeholders spanning the supply chain to support both the current energy needs and a sustainable future. The global energy landscape demands dependable, cost-effective and environmentally responsible solutions. We do so by shaping a better energy system that balances these critical needs.

Our vision
Our goal is to transform both the industry’s operations and its very essence. To achieve our goal, we believe the following measures are essential, and therefore implement them as part of our strategy:
Firstly, acting against climate change and the puruit of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050:
- Internal accountability: We calculate, manage and report our greenhouse gas footprint, as a result of our operations and those of our equity companies. We define the threshold of reporting based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), report on all Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and certain criteria from Scope 3 emissions.
- Shift in the energy mix: We actively diversify our portfolio to promote and trade cleaner energy sources and minerals required for the energy transition.
- Sustainable investments: We have set a target of having 50% of our investments into the energy transition by 2025. We have achieved this goal ahead of schedule, investing and partnering with over 50 companies offering renewable and sustainable solutions.
- Transparency: We are transparent in our reporting, including reporting on key performance indications (KPIs) for carbon emissions and other areas, and ensure transparent communication with all stakeholders about our operations, challenges and solutions.
Secondly, advancing technology to achieve higher efficiency, transparency and revolutionize the ways participants engage in commodity transactions:
- Blockchain adoption: We have taken a leading position in several FinTech ventures leveraging blockchain technology to enhance the speed, efficiency and security of global commodity trade.
