Skills for the future

Introduction

At Mercuria, we recognise that developing the skills and capabilities of our people is essential to our long-term success. As our business evolves across energy, power, LNG, environmental products, metals and critical minerals, the expertise required to operate effectively in global commodity markets continues to expand.

By investing in our employees’ development and growth, we strengthen our ability to adapt to changing markets, manage complexity and deliver value for our stakeholders. Our Human Resources (HR) and Corporate Responsibility & Compliance (CR&C) teams play a central role in supporting this objective.

We aim to create an environment where continuous learning is embedded into the way we work. This includes providing access to training, encouraging knowledge sharing and supporting employees in building the skills needed for both their current roles and future opportunities.

To build a diverse and highly skilled workforce, Mercuria offers a range of programmes and initiatives that support employee development across all levels of the organisation. These include structured onboarding, continuous professional development and role-specific training aligned with business needs.

Learning at Mercuria is delivered through a combination of approaches, including on-the-job experience, employee shadowing, peer-to-peer coaching and both in-person and digital training programmes. This ensures that employees are able to develop practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.

Our internal learning hub provides a comprehensive library of mandatory and optional training, ensuring that employees remain up to date with essential knowledge across compliance, operations and business practices.

Knowledge sharing and collaboration

We recognise that knowledge sharing is critical in a global and interconnected business where teams operate across markets, regions and commodities. Ensuring that employees understand not only their own roles, but also the broader context of Mercuria’s activities, is essential to effective decision-making and collaboration.

To support this, Mercuria hosts regular Lunch and Learn sessions across its offices, bringing together employees from different functions and regions. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including trading activities, logistics and supply chains, investment strategies, emerging markets and new business areas.

They also provide a platform for employees to share expertise, present projects and discuss developments within their teams. This helps build a more holistic understanding of the business, strengthens collaboration across departments and enables employees to engage more effectively with colleagues, clients and partners.

In addition to formal sessions, knowledge sharing is embedded in day-to-day activities through close interaction between teams, cross-functional projects and opportunities for employees to gain exposure to different parts of the business. This approach reflects the importance of collective expertise in managing complex and evolving global markets.

Training and development programmes

Mercuria’s approach to training and development is designed to support employees at every stage of their careers, from onboarding through to senior leadership roles. Our programmes are structured to combine technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and practical experience, ensuring that employees are equipped to operate effectively in dynamic and complex environments.

Training is delivered through a combination of formats, including structured courses, on-the-job learning, mentoring and coaching, and in-person sessions led by subject-matter experts. This blended approach allows employees to develop both core competencies and specialised knowledge relevant to their roles.

Our training programmes are continuously reviewed and updated to reflect changes in markets, regulations and business priorities. As Mercuria expands across energy, metals and critical minerals, this ensures that our workforce develops the capabilities required to support new activities and evolving supply chains.

Training for new hires

New employees are provided with a comprehensive onboarding programme designed to support their integration into Mercuria and provide a strong foundation for their roles.

This programme introduces new hires to Mercuria’s business model, organisational structure and key activities, helping them understand how their role fits within the broader organisation. It also provides exposure to the teams they will work with, supporting early collaboration and effective communication.

A key component of onboarding is ensuring that employees understand Mercuria’s standards, values and expectations. This includes detailed training on the Code of Conduct, as well as core compliance areas such as anti-bribery and corruption, anti-harassment and discrimination, and other regulatory requirements.

In addition, new employees are provided with practical information on workplace policies, benefits, insurance coverage and other employment-related matters, ensuring they are fully equipped to begin their roles confidently and effectively.

This structured onboarding process helps ensure consistency, supports early engagement and enables new employees to contribute to the business as quickly as possible.

On-going training & development

Mercuria provides a wide range of ongoing training programmes to support employees as they develop within the organisation and respond to evolving business requirements. These programmes are designed to ensure that employees maintain high standards of performance, remain aligned with regulatory expectations and continue to build the expertise required to operate in complex global markets.

Training is tailored to reflect the needs of different roles and functions, combining mandatory programmes with more specialised learning opportunities. This ensures that employees receive both a consistent foundation of knowledge and the flexibility to develop skills relevant to their specific responsibilities.

Compliance Training

Compliance is fundamental to Mercuria’s business, and our Corporate Responsibility & Compliance (CR&C) team delivers a comprehensive training programme to reinforce this. This includes training for new hires, as well as specialised sessions for employees and relevant business partners covering anti-bribery and corruption, market conduct and regulatory requirements.

Our training offering continues to expand, with a growing library of courses that support employees in understanding evolving regulations, managing risk and upholding Mercuria’s standards in their day-to-day activities.

HSSE training

Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) training is delivered across all operational activities and assets, with content tailored to the specific risks associated with each location and function. This includes both site-based training for operational personnel and relevant training for office-based employees.

These programmes ensure that employees and contractors understand the hazards associated with their work, the controls in place to manage risk and the actions required to maintain safe and compliant operations.

IT security training

In an increasingly interconnected digital environment, cybersecurity is a critical risk. Mercuria’s Security Education Platform provides mandatory training for all employees, covering key areas such as password management, secure systems use, safe browsing practices and the identification and reporting of phishing attempts.

This training helps ensure that employees are equipped to protect both company systems and sensitive information, supporting the integrity and resilience of our operations.

Other training examples

Mercuria also offers a range of additional training programmes across its global offices, including leadership development, management training and sessions led by subject-matter experts.

These programmes are designed to strengthen decision-making, support leadership capability and enhance employees’ understanding of the broader business environment. Topics include supply chains, market developments, operational practices and responsible business conduct, ensuring that employees remain informed and engaged across all aspects of Mercuria’s activities.
