Pretoria Energy operates one of Europe’s largest networks of anaerobic digestion facilities, converting agricultural residues and sustainable energy crops from our own Cambridgeshire farms into renewable energy.

By managing every step — cultivation, processing, and energy generation — we ensure complete traceability and deliver carbon‑negative electricity, heat, and Bio‑LNG that power the UK grid and heavy transport sectors.

The “Seed‑to‑Soil” model

Our closed‑loop system starts and ends with the land. Feedstocks grown on over 10,000 hectares of sustainably managed farmland are digested to produce biogas and renewable fuels, while the nutrient‑rich byproduct is refined into our Natura Grow range of peat‑free organic fertilizers. These fertilizers are then returned to the same fields for the next crop cycle, replacing carbon‑intensive chemical alternatives and ensuring the soil is continually restored rather than depleted.

By linking the worlds of agriculture and clean energy, the Seed‑to‑Soil model keeps all resources in motion — capturing carbon, regenerating soil health, and producing low‑emission fuels in a single, integrated cycle. It demonstrates how rural land management can contribute directly to national energy security while maintaining biodiversity and improving long‑term productivity.

Biogenic CO₂ as a product

Alongside renewable fuels, Pretoria Energy produces food‑ and beverage‑grade Liquid Bio‑CO₂ captured directly from its anaerobic digestion (AD) plants with full traceability and environmental integrity — renewable, reliable, and never from waste.

Unlike conventional CO₂ derived from fossil processes, Pretoria’s biogenic product originates entirely from renewable biological sources and belongs to the short‑term carbon cycle, leaving no long‑term fossil footprint. By integrating production, logistics, and quality control, the company ensures year‑round supply stability and cost certainty, protecting customers from the volatility of ethanol, fertiliser, and fossil‑fuel markets.

Net negative transport

Pretoria Energy produces Bio‑LNG — a next‑generation renewable alternative to fossil liquefied natural gas. Refined from crop‑fed biogas, this 100% biogenic fuel offers identical performance to conventional LNG while delivering more than an 80% reduction in CO₂ emissions and the potential for net‑negative results when methane capture is included. As a UK‑produced, price‑stable fuel, Bio‑LNG provides a resilient, low‑carbon solution for the trucking and heavy‑transport sectors, which have traditionally been limited by the volatility of fossil fuel markets.

To make this transition practical, Pretoria operates an integrated Bio‑Truck Hire platform offering heavy‑goods vehicles powered by its own renewable fuel, with maintenance, refuelling, and fuel costs included on a predictable pay‑per‑mile basis. This removes capital and infrastructure barriers for operators, allowing fleets of any size to adopt low‑carbon haulage without operational disruption.
